Gustavo Cerati on the cover of his album Bocanada

Ecuador

Jayac

A lot of people I know, think Latin American music is salsa (I have learnt the basics of salsa dancing, so being familiar with the music helped a lot) or Andean flute music  like Jayac from Ecuador (whom I saw in Bristol in 1994) that was my first taste of Latin American music and I love their music to this day Jayac’s Website
The first album I bought by Jayac was Camino de mi Pueblo (1989) on tape!  I’ve also have the album Luz de mi vida

There is so much more to Latin American music, especially in Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru and Mexico (I’ve not really explored any of the other countries yet, any recommendations would be appreciated) Contact me via my lastfm profile as I’m on there a lot Last Fm Profile

Colombia
I was first introduced to rock music from Colombia;  the song was Florecita Rockera by a band called Aterciopelados I couldn’t even pronounce or spell Aterciopelados at first, (it means the velvety ones) now it’s a breeze. I really like Aterciopelados songs. The ones  I adore are El Estuche , Bolero Falaz, Complemento and my favourite  Baracunatana and especially the singer Andrea Echeverri’s solo album, aptly titled Andrea Echeverri Songs from that album I love are – the beautiful Fulgor, A Eme O and Amortiguador and many more.

Marlene Dietrich by Photographer Don English 1932 ~Shanghai Express

Marlene Dietrich ~  Dec 27th 1901 – May 6th 1992   Wiki Article

This has to be the ultimate diva for me, she was an actress and singer  I won’t go into her life history as it’s documented very well already. I want to tell you what songs I like and why I like her

Songs
My favourite  song by Marlene is Wenn Die Beste Freundin (Marlene Dietrich, Oskar Karlweis, Margo Lion) (1928)  then a close second is Ich Hab’ Noch Einen Koffer In Berlin (1954)  then Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuß auf Liebe eingestellt (1930)

She has a style that no one today can touch, a classy elegance – it’s not the same now perhaps it was managed well by the movie companies the allure of mystery about her (it certainly was for Marlene, her privacy was very important to her)

I had a terrible nights sleep last night, Yep I felt like I was in that vortex ….I remember 5 and 6 am, worrying about work, people I love, life, my car, stupid stuff … Being awake in the dead of night with a couple of foxes for company, staring out the window, looking at the waxing moon. I woke up knackered (after 2 hours sleep)  yet full of ideas for this post and I’m sitting her writing this with wet hair as I needed a bath to wake me up as I was such a zombie.

Ideas about death, love, waiting, patience, hurt, loss all the things we just don’t want to deal with ….a bit morbid maybe it’s the lack off sleep my brain is wired differently today but out it must come.

reikiprincipleThe love of Reiki

You know when a friend has her hair done or some nice new makeup or just looks fresh-faced and happy, well a friend was just like that she looked radiant, so my curiosity was piqued to say the least, I asked her what it was she had done, she told me she had just learnt Reiki.

So I asked her about it, it’s interesting as I have been able to feel energy since I was a teenager, but kind of dismissed it as didn’t know what to do with it. I asked at the local spiritual church but was told categorically to come back in 6 months, so I thought this isn’t the way forward. So I went to a talk with Chris Parkes a Reiki Teacher whom my friend had just done his reiki course  and while I was having some reiki saw myself sending it to my mother (which is a reiki 2 level course, that I hadn’t done yet!) So I thought I’d better look into this and I did, it felt right to do the Reiki 1 Class with Chris and I’ve never looked back since.

Reiki is more about self-development for me than about giving and receiving the energy, that’s important too as so much love, healing and peace can be given and received by a reiki treatment, it’s  a wonderful gentle way of giving yourself or another some much-needed love, support and TLC.

Reiki for me transcends lots of spiritual boundaries, it has opened me up and helped me let go, love and detach from situations and people fo the last 13 years. It helped me deal with some very difficult issues and to be supported by the energy is wonderful and very comforting.

Crescent Moon in Gemini tonight ~ April 17th 2010

I love the moon and can gaze at it a lot at its different stages through the new moon back to the dark moon

It has always fascinated me since I was a child and since I started looking at it in more depth through the symbolism of astrology and Goddess imagery, it becomes more intriguing.

There was a solar eclipse on the morning of May 20th I was born during the darkness at 4am the following morning, though my mother said I never wanted to be born, they literally pulled me out with forceps. I was born with long black hair, a black eye (from the forceps) and a yellow face (from jaundice)… beautiful I was – stubborn Taurean

I have a lot of planets & asteroids in Taurus ( Juno, Ceres, Mercury, Mars, North Node and my Sun) My moon in Gemini (hence all the blogging and general banter :D) though Mercury is also going through Taurus at the moment in my 1st house of self-expression… so blog away girly!

I definitely feel the different phases of the moon, I am quite wild and hyper during the full moon and I’m quieter and very introspective when the moon is waning and especially around the dark moon, that’s my favourite time of the month as it’s very magical.

22:22

I look up at the moon to be close to you

Knowing you are always with me

Though I know nothing, I feel you close to my heart

I miss our love; our Moon in Gemini banter

Nothing is lost..ever

Lillies in my Kitchen ~ April 2010

I love lillies always have, maybe it’s the fragrance that hangs around my house for days, I can smell the aroma the minute I walk through the front door, it’s very welcoming.

Today has been rather lovely, I spent a lot of it under a tree reading a biography on Rimbaud by Graham Robb in the sunshine, quietly enjoying the first real stirrings of Spring.

I also love riding my lovely bike ( a Marin Point Reyes) as to get to this lovely secluded spot away from noise and people I needed to ride there, so I gathered up the essentials (a book,  a picnic of sandwiches (which funnily enough even had cucumbers in it… how delightfully British of me…) , juice, yogurt and ginger cake)

Rose Otto (Rosa Damascena)

I love essential oils with an ultimate passion.

I found aromatherapy way back in the mid 80’s when I was living in London.

I found it by mistake really I was not looking for it or that particularly interested at first. I was much more interested in Astrology and was taking an evening class in Hackney with Wanda Sellar who is a fine astrologer and I was also about to find out a wonderful aromatherapist too.

So I joined Wanda’s class in astrology, I got to know Wanda quite well as I did quite a few classes with her. She asked me along to her aromatherapy class. So I went along not really knowing what to expect.

Well after a few classes she pulls me to one side and tells me I’m a complete natural and asks me to be her assistant. She helped me to see what I couldn’t which was an affinity for essential oils and a natural talent at massage.
