Gustavo Cerati – August 11th 1959 to September 4th 2014

I’m going to start this post with what got me into Cerati in the first place. This image above. I saw the video (Te llevo para que me lleves) many years ago and I just loved his daft sense of humour and of course his voice. Even in his last videos, he’s still having a joke and being silly. This is how I’m going to remember him.

Well, I should have had something prepared for this post as I think we all knew in our hearts things weren’t going to get much better.

Though part of me never actually even contemplated that I’d be here writing about his passing. It’s weird as to the timing as I changed my profile pic on twitter from the Cerati one (below) to my own face for the first time in 4 years only last week.

☆Tú eres mi estrella Gus☆

★ ☆★ ☆★ ☆Leave a message as a star for Gustavo 🙂 One of my favourite words in Spanish is Estrellas (Stars), so I thought this post rather appropriate.
It’s great as this is lovely postive energy we are all sending to him for his recuperation★ ☆★ ☆★ ☆

Please leave a message, it only takes a minute x

Natural Force For Cerati (clicky)

It’s similar to the Amor Intensiva post ( You could do both if you haven’t left a message on that one)  🙂

Leave your name and a message (Dejale tu mensaje de aliento a Gustavo) Click on that

A little message box pops up and asks for your name (Tu Nombre) and  your message (Tu Mensaje), put in your details and click Enviar (send)

Simple xx

On Cerati’s Health Status:

I don’t post rumours or gossip, if it’s not official or from a close family member, it won’t be here. Patience and strength are needed! Gustavo is very ill and it will take quite some time for him to recover

I’m happy to post videos, blogs, stories, comments from fans and of course updates from friends and family members that celebrate him and encourage his recovery

Gustavo Cerati

Argentina
Now Argentina is a wonderful place for great music, the first artist I want to talk about is Gustavo Cerati. He used to be in a band called Soda Stereo I like some of their songs but I absolutely adore his solo work much more especially the first album I heard Amor Amarillo, the songs from that album are amazing.

I love the way he weaves words to make songs that are more like poems, what I can understand and what I’ve learnt from others as I’m still learning Spanish and what I get from the feeling of the songs makes my heart sing; I’m so happy and grateful that I was introduced to him by a man whose perception and understanding taught me a lot; especially to appreciate and adore Cerati’s songs/writing. My favourite song is A Merced, there is something magical about that song, it just makes me really happy. I also love Amor Amarillo too and many others.

Gustavo Cerati on the cover of his album Bocanada

Ecuador

Jayac

A lot of people I know, think Latin American music is salsa (I have learnt the basics of salsa dancing, so being familiar with the music helped a lot) or Andean flute music  like Jayac from Ecuador (whom I saw in Bristol in 1994) that was my first taste of Latin American music and I love their music to this day Jayac’s Website
The first album I bought by Jayac was Camino de mi Pueblo (1989) on tape!  I’ve also have the album Luz de mi vida

There is so much more to Latin American music, especially in Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru and Mexico (I’ve not really explored any of the other countries yet, any recommendations would be appreciated) Contact me via my lastfm profile as I’m on there a lot Last Fm Profile

Colombia
I was first introduced to rock music from Colombia;  the song was Florecita Rockera by a band called Aterciopelados I couldn’t even pronounce or spell Aterciopelados at first, (it means the velvety ones) now it’s a breeze. I really like Aterciopelados songs. The ones  I adore are El Estuche , Bolero Falaz, Complemento and my favourite  Baracunatana and especially the singer Andrea Echeverri’s solo album, aptly titled Andrea Echeverri Songs from that album I love are – the beautiful Fulgor, A Eme O and Amortiguador and many more.
